Pamela Skehan is a New Orleans-based artist and educator who has practiced and exhibited art in Ohio, Japan, and New Orleans. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with concentrations in painting, drawing, and ceramics from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from University of New Orleans. She spent two years in Japan where she taught English and studied calligraphy and landscape painting. In 2011 she moved to New Orleans and currently teaches painting and drawing at Metairie Park Country Day School. In 2021 she established a home studio in Metairie, Louisiana, where she focuses on figure and landscape painting. Her recent work examines growth, balance, and vulnerability found in early motherhood by capturing fleeting intersections of light, figure, and climate. Environmental references to Louisiana reflect anxieties around nesting in a sinking city. Expressive marks are used to convey chaos and conflict found in organic relationships between mother and child, people and place.
