I saw my daughter at the beach with all its beauty and inconvenience: sand in her hair, salt in her eyes, approaching the shoreline and deciding whether to cross it, not knowing if it’s warm or cool or infested with sharks. I set out to approach pregnancy and childbirth with the same curiosity and courage I hoped my daughter would bring to her first beach trip. A year later, with sand in my hair and salt in my eyes, we had arrived.
